AGP Fires Back to Back Perfect Outings
Cougars Starter Ava Grace Pruitt has been untouchable through seven starts this season.
WENTWORTH - For Cougar ace Ava Grace Pruitt, completely taming opposing offenses has become trademark.
But for the last two outings, the best way to describe her impact from the mound, is perfection.
The UNC commit kept a whole Wolfpack at bay Wednesday night — tossing a perfect game and striking out 15 of the 21 batters she faced — in a 2-0 win over Walkertown.
Pruitt threw just 71 pitches in the complete seven inning shutout, while hurling 79% strikes.
AGP struck out the side in the first and sixth innings, sat down at least two hitters in all but final the frame and punched out at least one batter in every inning she pitched.
The performance extends her perfect streak to 10 straight innings.
During a 16-0 win against Dudley Tuesday evening, Pruitt struck out all nine batters she faced.
The three-inning start consisted of just 34 pitches, 29 of which were strikes.
The junior saved the best for her last inning Tuesday against the Panthers, stringing together the elusive immaculate inning — striking out the side with the minimum of nine pitches.
This week’s amazing outings aren’t the only time that Pruitt has completely bamboozled opposing offenses.
Last Tuesday (March 11), Pruitt threw three perfect innings against conference foe Eastern Guilford, striking out 8 of the 9 batters that stepped into the box.
AGP (which also stands for Absolute Greatness Pitching) followed that performance up last Friday with another perfect three-inning start against High Point Central.
The Cougars ace struck out all nine batters, throwing 27 of her 32 pitches for strikes.
This season, the junior has struck out 70% of batters she’s faced (78/111) while giving up just 6 hits and issuing just 9 walks through 32 innings of work.
She holds a 7-0 record through seven starts, garnering a minuscule .656 ERA and .469 WHIP.
The Cougars go-to arm has had 23 1-2-3 innings this season, and 28 innings in which she got the first two hitters out.
Pruitt has also been a key cog for the Cougars offense, hitting .350 with a .458 on-base percentage through eight games.
The future Tar Heel has 8 runs driven in, which ranks fourth on the team.
The 7-1 Cougars will return to the diamond Tuesday as they face Atkins on the road.
First pitch is set for 6 PM.
They will return home on Wednesday to face rival Morehead.
